Chitral to be linked with China

The government will link Chitral with time-tested friend China by constructing Chitral-Gilgit road that would make the northern districts of Pakistan a hub of economic investment, said Federal Minister for Communication Arbab Alamgir Khan here on Monday.

He said Chitral-Gilgit road and Lawari Tunnel will open up Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for investment and would give further impetus to development process in Chitral, Dir, Swat and Malakand Agency, Dr Alamgir Khan remarked.

Addressing a big public gathering at Chitral and Garam Chashma here after starting of his three days visit, he said the completion of these two mega projects will revolutionise the communications sector, enhance trade activities with Central Asian Republics and bring an industrial revolution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The construction of tunnel will help establish strong road links with Central Asian States and hopefully it would be completed in 2011 at a cost of Rs17.50 billion. He said that Quid-e-Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed loved Chitral from the core of his hearts and his vision of construction of Lawari Tunnel would be fulfilled.

Bhutto had launched scores of developmental projects in Chitral and had great desire to make it a hub of investment, he added. He said that 450 employment vacancies would be created for talented youth of Chitral after construction of Lawari Tunnel.

The construction of Booni, Shandur-Gilgit Raod and Chitral-Garam Cheshma-Ashkasho Road would help strengthen trade ties with China also, he remarked. He said that Chitral-Gilgit road would be linked with China to give further impetus to development process in Pakistan.

Work on Chitral-Garam Chesma Road is in full swing and NHA are constructing it in line with roads international standard, he added. Arbab Alamgir Khan said PPP had rendered great sacrifices for return of democracy in Pakistan and her charismatic leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto sacrifices her life for the noble of cause to guard the rights of poor and marginalised community. A modern Muslim welfare state was the vision of slain PPP leader Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and we will ensure it for future generation, he remarked.

The Prime Minister will soon visit Chitral and discus with him starting of Benazir Shaheed University for people of Chitral, he remarked. He said that he would take up the matter of giving Mastuj a district status to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government.

Other leaders of PPP including Chitral President Muhammad Hakeem Advocate, Secretary Information Shah Murad Khan has thanked the government and the communication minister for taking keen interest in the development of Chitral and assured full support to them on behalf of people of Chitral.
