The operation was launched in the city's Bin Qasim area where authorities cracked down on land grabbers. Six people, including two policemen were injured in firing during the operation.
The operation was launched on Saturday morning by the Sindh government, city government and police. Police faced a lot of resistance by protestors who resorted to firing, shelling and pelting stones at the officials during the operation.
The 24 men were arrested for grabbing official land and disturbing peace in the area.
Meanwhile the residents held protest against the joint operation of police and encroachment department in Somargoth town of Karachi, said sources Saturday.
Hundreds of women residing in the area had come out to the streets in Somargoth town of Karachi to resist the operation launched by police and encroachment department against land grabbers on Thursday.
The protesters started pelting stones on the police personnel and their vehicles causing a severe wound at the head of a police official.
The glasses of several vehicles standing nearby were also broken. The police had to fire aerial shots and tear gas shells to disperse the charged mob.
Police arrested several protesters. The city government officials said illegal constructions on 174 acres of the cottage industry land were bulldozed during the operation and Rangers had been called for assistance.
They said, "The operation was in response to complaints by residents against illegal encroachments in the area."
Around 428 acres land was allocated for cottage industries over 30 year ago, but the process stopped due to some problems.
The land grabbers encroached upon the land using the name of Muhammad Khan Colony and Saadullah Goth and started selling 80 and 120 yards plots.
