Terrorists infiltrating Pakistan via Afghan border

Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday said that the terrorists were infiltrating into Pakistan via Afghanistan, and asked the Afghan government to take some action against them.

Talking to mediapersons here, the minister said the activists of the banned militant outfits, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and the Sipah-e-Sahaba, did not follow any religion and only act upon the directives of their leaders.

He maintained that the terrorists wanted to unleash sectarian clashes in the country. He hinted at the involvement of some third power behind the ongoing terrorist activities aimed at destabilising the country.

Malik said one of the two suicide bombers who detonated themselves at Data Darbar, Lahore has been identified. He said that the intelligence agencies were trying to unearth the links of the identified bomber.

He maintained that the government would not spare the terrorists involved in the Data Darbar bombings. The minister said that the terrorists, who failed to achieve their objectives, were now trying to stoke sectarianism.

Meanwhile, talking to a private TV channel, Rehman Malik said the government was committed to crushing the terrorist elements. Lauding the endeavours of law enforcement agencies and security forces against the menace of terrorism, the minister noted that security forces of Pakistan were doing a great job to eliminate terrorist elements from the country.

Pakistan's interior minister says both Afghanistan and NATO need to do more to prevent Taliban militants crossing the border into Pakistan. Rehman Malik tsaid he blamed Afghan militants for Friday's attack in north-west Pakistan, the most deadly this year, which killed more than 100 people. Pakistan's government had declared the area clear of militants and safe for civilians. Mr Malik also rejected the widely-held belief that militants are crossing freely in the other direction to fight coalition troops.
