Yemeni president resorts to US for maintenance of power

The British paper, Times, said that currently US drones violate Yemen`s airpace; and conduct military and reconnaissance operations in different regions of Yemen under the pretext of campaign against the terrorist group Al-Qaeda, similar to operations that the US drones conduct in Afghanistan and Pakistan soil.

The Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, has called on the US to raise its financial assistance to San'aa to obstruct the spread of popular uprising in Yemen. The Yemeni president who is deeply concerned that popular uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt may spill over to his country, has granted a number of concessions to the Yemeni people and has vowed to step down in the next round of presidential elections, while making every effort to safeguard his rule in the face of recent developments, with the support of the US.
Meanwhile, an American official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, has emphasized that the US financial assistance to Yemen will be doubled, while adding that the US president Barack Obama has earmarked $120 million for military and economic assistance to Yemen in the US annual budget for the year 2011.
Meanwhile, the so-called anti-terrorist operations coordinator of the US administration, Daniel Benjamin, has said that the report released in the year 2010 shows that US financial assistance to Yemen had totaled $67m, while Obama has called to raise this financial assistance to Yemen to $106.6 million in the new year.
The US financial assistance to Yemen is rising while a British paper has recently revealed that the US wants a military presence in Yemen under the pretext of campaign against Al-Qaeda.
The British paper, Times, said that currently US drones violate Yemen's airspace; and conduct military and reconnaissance operations in different regions of Yemen under the pretext of campaign against the terrorist group Al-Qaeda, similar to operations that the US drones conduct in Afghanistan and Pakistan's soil.
In the view of numerous political experts and even Yemeni people, the Al-Qaeda group and other terrorist groups in Yemen have been shaped and organized by the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and the US and Zionist regime's intelligence and security organizations in a bid to obstruct the growth of Islamic beliefs in the region, under the pretext of suppression of these groups.
The plundering of Yemen's huge undiscovered oil deposits and Yemen's geopolitical position are the other reasons behind the US and Zionist regime's efforts to dominate this country.
