Indo-Israel nexus is a threat to Pakistan

By: S. Ishfaq

India established its diplomatic relations with Israel in 1993 but kept their bilateral ties secret till 2003, when Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon visited India to formally expose the relationship. Since then economic, diplomatic and especially defence cooperation, which includes military hardware, nuclear and intelligence sharing, between the two states is deepening with each passing day.

There are credible reports that Indian and Israeli intelligence involvement in U.S.-controlled Afghanistan has deepened in the past seven years. American military and intelligence officials are impressed with the record of both countries in fighting Islamic groups in Kashmir, Afghanistan and the Mideast. Israel invested heavily in establishing schools that study the art of Islamic indoctrination. These schools were used to learn how clerics can brainwash recruits and then exploit them politically. Israeli spymasters have used this knowledge to penetrate Islamic groups and plant agents. They have passed this technique on to the Indians to help them counter pro-Pakistan religious groups in Kashmir. In the Kargil war in 1999, Pakistanis and Kashmiris faced a direct Israeli special operations intervention on the side of the Indian military.

India is one of the 39 countries with whom Israel has signed “secret co-operative agreements” to prevent information leaks from joint security projects. It is interesting to note that both India and Israel are democratic countries who killed more than 1 million people in the name of insurgency in Kashmir and Palestine respectively.

According to the figures released in 2009 by Israeli Defence Ministry, India accounted for 50% of Israel’s military exports. From 2006 to 2009, India’s $9 billion arms purchase from Israel have made India its largest client of military hardware. These arms sales were part of a declared NDA policy to forge an alliance among India, the United States and Israel. Same has been proposed by Brajesh Mishra in a speech to the American Jewish Community in Washington in May 2003 that India, Israel and the United States should unite to combat the common threat of Islamic fundamentalism. The Indo-Israel nexus is a part of the combat strategy to fight this common threat.

It is well known that Israeli Mossad infiltrates in jihadi organization structure through Indian influence in Afghanistan in order to help and train them. In his article, ‘Israel supplier of weapons to India’ Michael William pointed out that reason behind Israel’s inclination towards strengthening defence ties with India is to safe its defence industry to die down and start a proxy war against Pakistan in Baluchistan and in FATA.

Senior editor of Veterans Today, Gordon Duff revealed in a recent interview that the Indians and the Israelis, that are all over Afghanistan with German passports pretending to be military contractors, are operating 17 camps along the Taliban regions training and arming terrorist. According to Duff, “the Pakistani Taliban is in close cooperation with, supplied, armed, financed and trained by Israel and India to attack Pakistan”. Gordon Duff’s these claims are based on a February 2010 fact-finding tour of Pakistan.

The Nation reported on 18 June 2010 about an invitation of Indian government to a group of Israeli operatives to reach Kabul and participate in activities aimed at intensifying media war against Pakistan in a bid to create mistrust between NATO and Pakistani security forces. The daily further exposed that highly-placed diplomatic sources based in Kabul revealed that Dan Williams, who is heading the team of Israeli journalists, contacted Indian ambassador for a meeting a crafted a strategy to step up frequency propaganda against Pakistan playing frontline role in the war on terror.

According to the reports, there are irrefutable evidence that Indian and Israeli agencies have provided financial aid and modern weapons to the militants in the tribal region of Malakand and Waziristan. Prime Minister Gilani also handed over concrete evidences of Indian involvement in fomenting trouble in Baluchistan to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well US administration, which keeps on harping that Islamabad is not doing enough to fight terrorism, appealing it to stop New Delhi of its mischievous campaigns against Pakistan using Afghan soil. But sadly, the American admonitions to Pakistan about India’s benign intentions have turned into absolute demands.

Clearly, Israel and India share a common geo-strategic interest in destabilization of Pakistan and their entire cooperation is in pursuit of their expansionist designs within and across their respective regions. Ironically, Indo-Israel nexus in Afghanistan has Pakistan as a prime target and alongside all these developments; there is US encouraging Indo-Israeli activism in Afghanistan against their common threat. In view of all these realities it is astonishing to see the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, flying all over from Washington to Islamabad to tell the latter ‘to do more’, notwithstanding that it is US’ insanity to defend and secure her legitimate child, Israel and overlook the risky overtures of India in the region, which has put the world peace at stakes.

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated, “Our ties with India don’t have any limitation…” In return, India’s current position on the Palestinian issue and on Iranian nuclear issue is exemplary display of her being more receptive towards Israel. The Indo-Israel alliance would only serve their expansionist pursuit while keeping Afghanistan on boil. Therefore, it is for international community to realize that the security situation and insurgency issue in Afghanistan are not going to be solved until the Indian influence on the Afghan government is removed and Israel is being told strictly to draw its lines. Else the government that is to be held responsible for terrorism carried out by Taliban or Al-Qaeda is not going to be Islamabad nut Tel Aviv and New Delhi. It’s high time for the Obama administration to choose before the flourishing Indo-Israel relationship makes a significant impact on global politics by altering the balance of power, not only in south Asia, but also in the larger Asian region.
